Parental Control for Child’s Phone

Registration of CALMEAN device

Is any contract required?

no Simply accepting the Terms and Conditions during device registration in the mobile application or on www.calmean.com is enough.

We operate on a subscription model. Our service operates on a subscription model. If someone wants to use our service at a given time, they need to pay the fee. If someone is not using our service at a given time, they can take a break from payments.

Note: Our factory SIM card, after 2 consecutive months of no payment, may be automatically deactivated. This is an irreversible process; Reusing CALMEAN services will require installing a new SIM card in the device. You will receive it from us for free – we just ask you to contact our customer support (BOK).

I registered the device, but it doesn't work properly.
If the device has at least one of the following symptoms:

  • No location on the map.
  • incorrect time
  • lack of contacts in the address book

This means that the device did not establish a connection with GPS. The best way is to take the device outside for a few minutes – then it will find a GPS signal and all settings will appear automatically.

What is additional protection for a child's phone?

As part of the paid package for the smartwatch, there is also the possibility of free configuration of parental control for the child’s phone.

Normally, the cost of such protection starts from 9.99 PLN/month. As long as As long as the package for the smartwatch is paid for, the service is provided without any additional charges.

Thanks to the parental control of a child’s phone, you can, among others:

Parental control for smartphones is a great complement to child protection. It can also be applied to a second child, in which case, in the same CALMEAN application, the parent can control the smartwatch of one child and the phone of the other child.

Do Calmean devices work abroad?

Yes, however, in the case of using devices outside of Poland, it is necessary to replace the SIM card with a local operator’s SIM card. Our devices do not have so-called. Our devices do not have a sim-lock, so they will work with sim cards from any operator. However, such a sim card cannot have a set PIN number (it cannot be entered on the device). It is also worth remembering that the sim card should have an active data package so that the device can communicate with the CALMEAN system and transmit location data.

Do I need to provide a payment method when registering a CALMEAN device?

To use CALMEAN devices and the factory SIM card that comes with them, you need to purchase a license. Available payment methods in the web panel include: PayPal, Przelewy 24 (annual payment in advance), Mobile Operators. Available payment methods in the mobile application are Google Play payments. During the registration of the account on the website panel, you need to choose the payment method and make the first payment. The free device testing period (30 days) will be automatically added.

What is Starter CALMEAN and what is it used for?

CALMEAN Starter is an application and SIM card that enable the use of smartwatches and GPS trackers of other brands than CALMEAN (CALMEAN devices already have a pre-installed SIM card and are properly configured).

The starter fits with devices that support any type of SIM card. i.e. Namely, SIM, microSIM, and nanoSIM.

Rules for using the Starter:

The starter allows for device configuration and full access to CALMEAN service for 30 days without any additional charges.

After 30 days, one can continue to use the Service by selecting one of the three available paid packages (details in the PAYMENTS section below).

The SIM card is an integral part of the Starter and is dedicated to one device with which it has been configured. The card cannot be used in another device, nor can it be transferred between different devices, even if all of them are configured with CALMEAN.

How to set up your device with Starter
  • Make sure that the device is turned off.
  • Insert the SIM card into the device.
  • Go to www.calmean.com and select the Control Panel.
  • Register and select ADD DEVICE.
  • Provide the ID number of your starter (located on the SIM card).
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the device configuration.
  • Ready! You can now use your device and CALMEAN Starter for 30 days without any additional charges.
I have configured the device, but it is not working properly.

If after successful device configuration, it exhibits at least one of the following symptoms:

  • no location on the map
  • incorrect time
  • missing contacts in the address book

This means that the device did not establish a connection with the GPS. The best way is to take it outside for a few minutes – then it will find the GPS signal, and all settings will appear automatically.

What devices is the Starter compatible with?

The Starter is compatible with most devices that require a SIM card, including: popular smartwatch models such as Q528, A7, S7, Q629, Q50, Q80, Q90, TD31, devices from brands like Garett, XBlitz, Kruger&Matz, and others..

Do devices with CALMEAN Starter work abroad?

Yes, however, in the case of using devices outside of Poland, it is necessary to exchange the SIM card for a local operator’s card – the SIM card that is part of the CALMEAN Starter does not have roaming.

Configuration issues. Possible causes:

The device configuration process is fully automated. However, certain conditions must be met for the configuration to be successful. Make sure that:

  • You provide the correct ID number of the Starter (located on the SIM card – it has 19 digits).
  • You are within the range of the internet (the SIM card must connect to the internet to complete the configuration).
  • Your device is compatible with CALMEAN (you can find the list of devices at www.calmean.com/starter, or confirm with us by contacting our Customer Support).
  • Your device is functional and charged.

If the configuration is not successful, you will see at which stage the problem occurred. This may be the stage:

  • The activation of the SIM card.
  • The configuration of the device.
  • The establishment of a connection with the device.
  • The finalization of the configuration.

In that case, please send us a report, stating:

  • The Starter ID number.
  • The model and brand of the device.
  • The stage at which the problem occurred.

How much does it cost to use the CALMEAN service?

The cost depends on the device you use with CALMEAN and the payment method you choose.

How to pay the subscription fees?

You can pay the subscription fees from our Control Panel. In the ‘Account Settings’ section, there is a button labeled ‘RENEW’. It allows you to extend access to your account for another month.

What are the differences between the payment methods for the license?

There are several methods available for paying for access to the CALMEAN System:

  • One-time payments via Przelewy24 – they can be made from the Internet Control Panel, these are one-time payments that provide access to the System for one year.
  • Subscriptions can be paid automatically every month through PayPal or Google Play, as well as by adding payments to the mobile operator’s bill.
Is the mobile application for management additionally paid for?

No. The CALMEAN Control Center application can be downloaded for free.

Does the license fee remain after replacing the SIM card with your own?

The fee is independent of whether the device contains the SIM card provided in the set or another card inserted by the user. The fee paid by the user is a fee for access to the CALMEAN system, in particular for;

  • Using the CALMEAN Control Center mobile application for management (on Android and iOS systems).
  • Using the web control panel.
  • Access to the system collecting location data.
  • Usage of safety zones.

How do I cancel my PayPal subscription when I stop using CALMEAN services?

To permanently unsubscribe from CALMEAN services, if the licensing fees were paid through a PayPal subscription, you need to deactivate the subscription in your PayPal account on your own.

When I stop using CALMEAN services, how can I cancel my Google Play subscription?

If you permanently stop using CALMEAN services – in case the licensing fees were paid via a GooglePlay subscription – you need to deactivate the subscription on your Google account.

How do I unsubscribe from mobile operator charges when I stop using CALMEAN services?

If you permanently stop using CALMEAN services and the license fees were charged through a mobile operator, you need to cancel the service by sending an appropriate SMS command to deactivate the fees (details can be found in the SMS confirming the activation of the service sent by the operator).

Alternatively, you can request to unsubscribe from the CALMEAN subscription by sending an email to kontakt@calmean.pl, providing your email address and the phone number from which the charges are being made. CALMEAN will promptly forward the relevant request to the appropriate Operator.

Remember that the price of the subscription for a child’s device (smartwatch) also includes the possibility of parental control over the child’s phone.

  • If you are using it, cancelling the subscription will also result in deactivation of this additional service.

Operating the device

Are incoming calls charged?

No. Incoming calls to CALMEAN devices are not charged. The incoming calls to CALMEAN devices are not charged. The caller bears the cost of the call according to standard rates or based on the minutes included in their mobile plan (just like calling a standard mobile phone number).

How does location tracking work?

Location in CALMEAN devices is based on data from 3 location modules:

  • GPS – pinpoint location (accuracy up to 1 meter, on average 10-15 meters), presented on the map as an orange pin. It operates on the basis of a network of 31 satellites and terrestrial receivers, most often the device uses it while being in an open space. Disturbances or loss of signal may be cause by: entrance to the building, being next to the a high building or between buildings, or becouse of moving at high speed under the roof (eg Train).
  • WiFi – displayed on the map as a small, gray circle; Location of medium accuracy (several dozen meters). One of two types of so-called approximate locations, gives the position as a circle with a given radius within which the device is located. The device does not log into any Wi-Fi networks and only uses the strength of the signal and the name of the network to approximate the location of the device.
  • LBS (Location-Based Service) – a method that uses cell phone operator transmitters. Presented as a large gray circle, LBS has low accuracy (over 100 meters, sometimes even several kilometers). It is a rough location, allowing caregivers to provide information about the device’s position, even when more accurate methods of location are not possible. The accuracy of LBS location is dependent on the density of cell towers in the area, as well as the time of day (sometimes certain towers are turned off or undergoing maintenance work during nighttime).

The device automatically selects the most accurate method of location based on what is available at the moment (for example, if there is no GPS signal indoors, the device will provide an approximate location using WiFi or LBS).

In the case of a small scale map view, locations from nearby places are combined into one point, which breaks down into smaller ones when the map view is zoomed.

The device’s position records are combined into a path of movement. It is also possible to view historical records

In addition, owners of more devices have the opportunity to view their current position on one common map.

What does it mean that the device has no GPS coverage?

This means that the device has not established a connection with GPS and is using an approximate location – either through wi-fi or LBS.

How often does the device provide location information?

You can set 3 levels of device location frequency: Low, Medium, and High. The higher the level, the more battery consumption. Recommended level by us is the middle level.

Additionally, when the device stays in one place for a longer period of time, it enters sleep mode to save battery and wakes up when it changes location.

Why is the device not providing a new location?

In a situation when the device stays in one place for a long time, it goes into sleep mode. In this situation, the device goes into sleep mode, saving battery life. When the device starts to move again, it will start transmitting new locations.

Do Calmean devices work abroad?

Yes, however, in the case of using devices outside of Poland, it is necessary to replace the SIM card with a local operator’s card – because the factory card DOES NOT HAVE ROAMING. When replacing the SIM card with your own, remember to make sure that the card does not have a PIN set (it cannot be entered on the device). It is also important to have an active mobile data plan, so that the device can communicate with the CALMEAN system and transmit location data.

Localization is inaccurate.

If the location is presented in the form of an orange pin at a single point, it indicates GPS location (approximately 5m accuracy). If the device is not within the range of the GPS network, it uses the WiFi module (with an accuracy of several tens of meters) or, as a last resort, LBS (low accuracy) Approximate locations are presented as a gray circle within which the child is located. SIM cards and call charges.

Do I need to register the SIM card?
No. The provided SIM card is already registered to our company and is made available to users as part of the service we provide. Such configured SIM card will, of course, work in accordance with the applicable legal regulations.
Can I replace the SIM card with my own? How to remove the PIN from the card?

For the sake of ensuring the greatest convenience of use and speed of registration, all CALMEAN devices are delivered with a SIM card – already configured and registered.

Similarly, you receive a registered SIM card with the CALMEAN Starter, which is dedicated to users who have their own device (i.e. a brand other than CALMEAN).

You can always replace the SIM card with your own in any case. Remember, however, that you will lose some functions, including:

  1. Then, however, you lose some features, such as the ability to check the remaining minutes on the SIM card directly in the CALMEAN Control Center app.
  2. Automatic notifications about low and zero minutes balance.
  3. Checking the expiration date of the SIM card directly in the CALMEAN Control Center application.
  4. The possibility to check the expiration date of the SIM card directly in the CALMEAN Control Center application.

We recommend changing the SIM card primarily to our customers abroad. Additionally, remember thatReplacing the SIM card with your own will not affect the license fee for using CALMEAN.

Exchange step by step.

To ensure proper functioning of the device after the SIM card replacement, please follow the instructions below:

Check your new SIM card.

Your new SIM card must meet the following two conditions:

  1. No PIN lock.
    CALMEAN devices do not work with SIM cards that require a PIN to be entered. You can deactivate such a PIN lock in any SIM card, though. To disable the PIN on your own SIM card:
    1. Insert the SIM card into any smartphone.
    2. In the PHONE MENU, find the option to turn off the PIN. In different phone models, this option may be located in different places. Most commonly, it can be found in: >SETTINGS – en> ADVANCED SETTINGS – PRIVACY AND SECURITY or SECURITY.
    3. Disable PIN lock for the SIM card.
  1. Access to the Internet through cellular data (minimum of 300 MB per month).
    CALMEAN devices do not connect to Wi-Fi networks (those that have a suitable module use it to determine the location, not to connect to the network). Your new SIM card must provide the device with access to the Internet so that it can communicate correctly with our server and transmit, among other things, Information about location). Here are a few ways to make sure that your SIM card meets this requirement:
    1. Insert the SIM card into any smartphone, turn off WiFi, and check in the browser whether websites load correctly, e.g. www.calmean.com.
    2. Insert the SIM card into any smartphone, select the phone dialer app and enter the appropriate USSD code to check the account balance for your mobile carrier, and press the green call button. Here are the codes for the most popular mobile network operators in Poland:
      1. Orange: 124#
      2. Play: *101#
      3. Plus: *100#
      4. T-Mobile: *101#
      5. Heyah: *108#
      6. Njumobile: *127*1#
    3. Log in to your account with your mobile network operator and check the amount of available data.
    4. Contact the operator by phone and ask about the available data limit.

Insert your new SIM card into the device.

  1. In the user manual, you can find the way of inserting a SIM card for each device as well as the location of the SIM card slot.
  2. Remember to choose the right size of SIM card for your device (you can also find this information in the user manual of our devices).
  3. Turn on the device only after inserting the SIM card. If you inserted the SIM card into the turned-on device, you can turn it off and then on again.

Check if the SIM card has registered to the network – see if the icon on the watch has changed from “no signal” to showing signal bars.

Change the number in the Control Center app

  1. Log in to the CALMEAN Control Center application using the account to which the device is attached.
  2. Choose the appropriate profile.
  3. Click “More”.
  4. Select “SIM settings”
  5. Select the “SIM settings” option.
  6. Enter the new phone number and confirm it.
  7. Check if the SIM card is properly configured (usually takes up to 60 minutes) and whether the device has an active connection (dot next to its profile in green color).

Who is the operator of the factory SIM card?

Currently, we cooperate with T-Mobile in providing cellular services.

After registering the device, the SIM card is not active.

In most cases, the SIM card is activated by the Operator within a few minutes. Occasionally, activation may take up to 24 hours. After the SIM card is activated, you will receive a notification and an email with the number assigned to the device. Only then turn on the device.

If activation takes longer than 24 hours and your SIM card is still inactive, please contact our customer service.

The SIM card has stopped working - it has been deactivated.

If your SIM card has been deactivated, it happened due to the lack of payment for a period longer than 2 months.

Remember to never let the payment break last longer.

Now you can receive a new SIM card for free.

1.Log in to your account.

2. Purchase a license for your device.

3. After purchasing the license, you will see a SIM card order form.

4. Please fill in the form providing your shipping address for the new SIM card.

We will send the new SIM card (for self-replacement in the device) by postal mail within 2 business days.

When and how are minutes for phone calls from the device calculated?

As part of the license, on the 1st day of each month, a certain number of minutes (depending on the selected package) are allocated for outgoing calls from the device. You can use the minutes within a given calendar month. Charges are calculated on a per-second basis. Unused minutes from a given month do not carry over to the next billing period.

How are additionally purchased minutes for phone calls billed?

Additionally, the purchased pool of minutes is charged after the total exhaustion of the pool of minutes included in the paid package.

In addition, purchased minutes also carry over to the following billing months.

Functionalities

How do the Zones work?

A zone is the area you specify on the map. For a zone, you also specify a time rule for when the zone should be active.

Types of zones:

  • Exit from the zone: You will receive an alert when the device leaves the zone (on a specified day, within a specified time range). For example, if the zone is set for 8.00-9.00, you will receive an alert when the child is in the zone and leaves it between 8.00 and 9.00. However, you will not receive an alert when your child leaves the zone at 9.01.
  • Entering the zone: You will receive an alert when the device appears in the zone(on a specified day, within a specified time interval). For example: if the zone is active 8.00-9.00, you will not receive an alert when your child enters the zone at 7.59. You will receive an alert only when your child enters the zone between 8 am and 9 am.
  • No entry to zone: You will receive an alert if the device does not appear in the zone (on a specific day at the time the time range for the zone begins). For example, if the zone is set 8.00 am – 9.00 am , you will receive an alert at 8.00 am (or with a slight delay) only if the child is not at 8.00 am in the zone.
  • Zone of Silence: During a specified time period on a specified day, no one (except for primary contacts) will be able to reach the device.
  • Exit zone alarm: This is an additional alarm on the device (child’s watch), which goes off when they leave the zone during specified hours on specified days (this type of alarm is linked to the “Exit zone” alarm and activates at the same time).
How does the Zone of Silence work?

When you set the Zone of Silence on the CALMEAN device, then no one – except for primary contacts – will be able to reach the device. Primary contacts can still reach the device normally.

An additional feature is to use the SILENCE function – with it, the watch can be silenced remotely and will remain silenced until unlocked.

If the device's listening function is not working

For the listening function to work properly, the device profile must have the correct and actual phone number of the SIM card that is inserted into the device. During device configuration, the factory SIM card number is automatically entered into the device profile. If you replace the SIM card with your own, then to ensure proper listening function, you need to select the correct SIM card in the SIM CARD SETTINGS function, according to the new SIM card number that you have inserted into the device.
